Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?
“The Homeless Have Talent Too!”
Status: Written Concept
In the spirit of American Idol and the X-Factor, The Homeless Have Talent Too! will be a nationwide talent contest for the homeless – the invisible society of millions of people forced into their situation by bad luck, poverty, domestic violence, lack of affordable housing, diminishing job opportunities, and a decline in public assistance.
Talent doesn’t distinguish between the rich and poor, and there’s an über amount of gifted people out there living on the street. Don't forget, some of Hollywood's finest were once homeless -- stars like William Shatner, Halle Berry, Shania Twain, Jim Carrey, Hillary Swank, Charlie Chaplin, Sylvester Stallone, and Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., the “Black Sinatra” who won the 2011 America’s Got Talent contest.
In addition to providing entertainment, one of our primary goals will be to raise substantial money. Towards the show’s finale, the producers will promote a national “Homeless Awareness Day” wherein we will gather funds from social media and cell phone votes, then distribute the money to shelters and missions around the world. Every talented artist needs a break at some point in life, and THHTT! will offer those down on their luck some real optimism and hope for a better future.
